Some 25 years ago, he became a father for the first time. The birth of any couple's first child is one of those moments that stay with us for the rest of our lives. One of celebration – or so one might think.

The next morning, Matt received what many would perceive as horrific news. His daughter, Emily, was born with Down syndrome and many would immediately jump to the conclusion that this little girl would have very little hope for a life with any significance. Then, just two years later came a devastating diagnosis of leukemia.
